1978: Nina Jo Bilberry was named as Floyd's Outstanding Citizen at the conclusion of the Floyd Country Jamboree.

A 1952 graduate of Floyd High School, Bilberry was well known in Roosevelt County for years of service in the county clerk's office.

She had her first public piano performance at age 13 when she played for the Upton Church revival, and went on to play for church, school graduations, and community events, including many weddings and funerals.

She was actively involved with her children as they went through the Floyd schools, and was made an honorary member of the school's Future Homemakers of America chapter for many acts of assistance to the group, including driving thousands of miles taking students to meetings.

1973: The first stitches were being sewn in the new Levi Strauss Boyswear Division plant in Clovis, with workers being trained at the company's temporary facilities at 100 Sycamore.

The all-female workers were learning to use the new $800-$1,200 machines for the 38-step process required for each pair of boys' jeans.

Acting plant manager Robert Callaway said the first payroll for the new employees would be made in silver dollars, "as a means of marking the occasion and to give local merchants an opportunity to see the impact of the payroll to some degree."
