Ranchvale's official removal up for vote

CLOVIS — The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the official removal of Ranchvale Elementary from the district inventory at tonight’s meeting.

The school closed in May 2016 and, according to the agreement signed in 1930, the land and the building have gone back to the original property owners J. Emmet and Ellen Davis, who transferred the property at no cost to the Curry County Board of Education.

J. Emmet and his wife Ellen died in 1944 and 1981 respectively, so now the property rights belong to their 11 living grandchildren and lone living child Jack, who formed Ranchvale Center, LLC.

Other items on the agenda for the 5:30 p.m. meeting at the administration building at 1009 Main St. include:

• The board will discuss a change to the vacation policy for support staff. The changes call for vacation time to be accrued per two-week pay period rather than monthly.

• The board will vote on a contract with Jaramillo Accounting Group, LLC to provide an audit for fiscal year 2018. Assistant Superintendent of Finance Shawna Russell said this will be the fifth year CMS has used Jaramillo Accounting.

• The board will vote on parking and drainage improvements at Parkview Elementary at a cost of about $495,000. Russell said the district hopes to receive funding for the project through bonds.

• An update on Lockwood Elementary from Principal Deborah Westbrook.
