PORTALES — Friday's Barbara George/Jim Love Relays saw Clovis Wildcat dominance across the board, as both the Wildcat boys and girls track and field teams won the overall team standings. The boys scored 111.5 points, nearly 30 points ahead of second place, while the girls scored 119 points, good enough for a 27.5-point margin of victory.
Clovis boys took both the 400 and 800 relay events, while Austin Fuentes and Burgin Foster won the 100 meter dash and pole vault events, respectively.
On the girls side, they too were winners in the 400 and 800 relays. Antanishwa Molett was a winner in the 100 meter dash, Sidney Stratton took the 400 meter dash title, and Mikyla Harkley was the long jump winner. The girls team had a 1-2-3 finish in the 400, and a 1-2 finish in the long jump.
As for Portales, the boys placed sixth with 36.5 points, while the girls performed slightly better with 39 points, good enough to bring home fifth place.
Jessie Campbell was the star on the girls side, winning the high jump, finishing second in the javelin competition and sixth in the 100 meter dash event. Emily and Audrey Christensen, meanwhile, finished second and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault.
As for the boys, the 400 and 800 teams both placed in fourth. The biggest story for the Rams from Friday, however, was that Portales made up five of the top eight spots in the shot put, led by a second-place finish from Fred Johnson.
