Eastern frosh leads ropers

Zant Zamora helps the Hounds place 3rd

SNYDER, Texas — It was a pretty amazing showing for Eastern New Mexico University's Zant Zamora.

Even more amazing is that he's only a freshman.

Zamora's performance in the team roping paced the Eastern New Mexico University men's rodeo team to a third-place finish at the Western Texas College Rodeo in Snyder last weekend. Jacob and Wesley Gudgell were the runners-up in the event.

Eastern's compiled 240 points to earn third place. Western Texas won the rodeo with 380 points, while Odessa College was second with 370 points.

Zamora and and Kasper Blackwell (Ranger) won the team roping with a time of 18.5 on two. The duo also won the short round.

Jacob and Wesley Gudgell took second in the event with a time of 18.6 on two.

Hannah Hughes and Molly Griffin posted times of 2.7 in the breakaway roping. Tawny Barry and Celie Vick narrowly missed qualifying for the short round in the goat tying with times of 8.0 and 8.1 seconds, respectively.

The ENMU rodeo teams will return to action on Thursday, for the Howard College Rodeo in Big Spring, Texas.
