Eastern's Miles qualifies for NCAA championships

HOBBS — Eastern New Mexico’s Kandice Miles qualified for the NCAA championships two times over, as the Greyhounds had 10 top-five finishes and 15 more top-10 performances at the New Mexico Junior College Ross Black Invitational on Saturday.

Miles, a sophomore, received provisional qualification with a 24.33 in the 200. She also ran the final leg of ENMU’s 400 relay team that finished at 46.6 seconds. Both times are school records.

The relay team includes Miles, Lateria Slaughter, Danee Bustos and Zhane Gurule.

The Greyhound men, ranked 25th in Division II, won five events on the day.

The Greyhound men's team took first place in five events at the meet. Marcus Parker won the 200 (21.26), Kenneth Lloyd won high jump (2.05 m) Shane Walsh won the 1,500 (4:04.63), Ivar Moinat won the 800 (1:52.11) and Clarence Cowart took first place in the javelin (45.52 m).

ENMU heads to Canyon on Saturday for the West Texas A&M Invitational.
