CANYON, Texas — Marcus Parker continued his stretch of dominant performances on Sunday afternoon while leading the Eastern New Mexico University track and field team at the West Texas A&M Invitational. Parker automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-meter dash, while Danee Bustos and Ivar Moinat had provisonally qualifying marks in the 200- and 800-meter dashes, respectively.
The Greyhound men’s team placed fourth with 60 points, while the women’s team placed sixth with 44.5 points. Altogether, ENMU had 13 top-five performances and 23 top 10 finishes. Parker’s time in the 200 was the second fastest for the NCAA Division II over the last 10 years. With altitude conversion, the mark is the sixth fastest time in NCAA Division II history. Without the conversion it would be the third fastest.
Parker’s time of :20.36 in the 200 not only is the best in the NCAA Division II by 0.28 seconds, but is in the top ten for all NCAA divisions and the USA. He also won the 100-meter dash with a time of :10.30, 0.16 faster than runner-up Andre Edwards from South Plains College.
Bustos also set a team record in the 200-meter dash and placed seventh with a time of :24.15. Ivar Moinat placed second int he 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.92.
Coley Norcross and Mercy Rotich were respective second and third-place finishers in the women's 500-meter run, posting respective times of 19:25.78 and 19:32.01.
Eastern will return to action on May 3, for the Lone Star Conference Championships.
