Reporter's notebook: Ancient artistry

PORTALES — It turns out flint knapping isn’t just a fun phrase to say; it’s the art of making arrowheads, and it will be on display at the Portales Public Library at noon on Thursday.

Portales flint knapper Tommy Heflin will present his program “The Art of Flint Knapping” at the Friends of the Portales Public Library meeting after the group has finished conducting business, according to member Betty Williamson.

With any luck, there won’t be a demonstration on how to use the arrowheads once they’ve been made.
