ALBUQUERQUE — The good news is Portales' Sarah Blaeser is moving on to the semifinals in the state tennis singles bracket.
The bad news is it required eliminating a teammate.
Blaeser defeated fellow Ram Zamorye Cox 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinal bracket Wednesday night at the Jerry Cline Tennis Complex. She'll move on to an 11 a.m. semifinal against Haley Garcia of St. Michael’s. That winner heads to the the 4 p.m. championship. Both matches are also at Cline.
In early matches, held at Sierra Vista, Cox defeated Bosque's Sarah Baca 6-1, 6-0 to reach the singles quarterfinals and Portales' doubles teams both fell in the opening round.
Cameron Calabrese and Kyra Chavez of St. Michael's topped Portales' Kinsey Bilberry and Kelly Fraze 6-4, 6-3.
Taos' Joseph Colonias and Victor Burns defeated Portales' Gerardo Calderon and Javier Gutierrez 6-1, 6-1.
