Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Entry to the Saturday event is two cans of non-perishable food.
CLOVIS — The Fourth annual High Plains Women’s Expo will return to the Clovis Civic Center on Saturday for a day of seminars, shopping, fitness, food and dancing.
Civic Center General Manager Misty Bertrand said the primary goal of the expo is to bring people together and help make connections.
“The purpose behind the expo is to get folks out of the house and find out about all the opportunities and the amazing people in the community,” Bertrand said.
To do that the expo will cover a wide range of topics.
Bertrand said starting every hour on the hour, fitness classes will be held, including yoga, tai chi and CrossFit. Bertrand said the expo will also include seminars covering women’s nutrition and health, positive body image and identity theft.
Other events scheduled include a baby crawl, two fashion shows, a blood drive and a lip sync battle, while vendors will also be on hand for shopping or grabbing a bite to eat.
“It’s a little bit of everything and just shows the flavor of Clovis and highlights the phenomenal women we have here on the High Plains,” Bertrand said.
Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ernie Kos said a week’s worth of pre-events have generated a lot of interest for Saturday’s expo.
“It’s been a fun week so I can feel the anticipation is really building for Saturday,” Kos said it.
With Mother’s Day just around the corner and numerous vendors at the expo, Kos and Bertrand said the event will be the perfect time to get a gift for the occasion.
“I think people are going to be surprised at the huge variety of vendors and businesses there really are in Clovis,” Kos said.
Bertrand emphasized that despite the name, men are more than welcome at the expo.
“It’s called the women’s expo but it’s not just for women, it’s also for the men and the children that love them,” Bertrand said.
Bertrand said the women’s expo will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at which point the expo space will be torn down to set up a dance floor for the Cinco de Salsa Celebration, which will take place from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Bertrand said that event will include dancing, chips and salsa, a cash bar and a disc jockey to cap off the day of activities, with the first 100 people in attendance for the Cinco de Salsa Celebration receiving a free jar of salsa.
The cost of admission to the women’s expo is two non-perishable food items, which Bertrand said will be donated to the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico.
