Clovis' Cruce named 2-6A baseball coach of the year

CLOVIS — Clovis baseball coach Richard Cruce has been honored as coach of the year for District 2-6A, according to a release from Clovis Municipal Schools.

The award is selected by all of the coaches in 2-6A, which includes Clovis, Santa Fe, Manzano, Sandia, La Cueva and Eldorado.

The Wildcats finished second in district play behind La Cueva, going 8-2 overall. For the season, Clovis is 23-5 to tie a school record for single-season wins. The Wildcats entered the Class 6A state tournament as the No. 4 seed, and face Carlsbad at 4 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals.
