Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Reporter's notebook: New chapter

A Girl and A Gun, a national women’s shooting organization, is coming to the High Plains.

Stateline New Mexico, A Girl and A Gun’s new chapter in Clovis, will look to bring women from eastern New Mexico and west Texas together for shooting and other activities, facilitator Patti Emmerling said.

“It’s a group of women where we get together, we bond and do other things not just shooting,” Emmerling said. “We support each other, we help each other grow. It really truly is an empowering organization.”

The group will hold a Ladies-Only Meet-n-Greet at 1 p.m. on May 26 at Patriot Outdoors Academy to introduce itself to the community and will hold Girls’ Night Out shooting events on the second Tuesday of every month, starting June 12.

Emmerling said the group will hold additional events throughout the year and provide training on subjects other than shooting such as situational awareness, refusing to be a victim and martial arts.

Shooters of all skill levels are invited to attend.

“It’s for women who have never picked up a gun before all the way to women who shoot competitively,” Emmerling said.
