Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
PORTALES -Eastern New Mexico men's basketball has added a little bit of international flavor to its roster, as coach Tres Segler announced the signing of Australia native Deng Kuany on Wednesday.
Kuany is a 6-foot-7 forward who most recently played at Miles Community College in Miles City, Montana over the past two seasons.
Through a university press release, Segler said, "Deng is a huge addition to our program. His athleticism and mobility at his size is truly special. Being raised in Australia, his game shows a skill level and a developmental advancement that is not common in American forwards today."
As a freshman in 2016-17, Kuany shot 47 percent from 3-point range, and as a sophomore last season, he averaged 11.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for MCC.
Kuany is said to be a skilled forward with size and strength to play the post, while also possessing enough perimeter skills and 3-point shooting ability to become a threat as a "pick-and-pop" forward.
The Australian will enter the 2018-19 season as a junior for the Greyhounds.
