PORTALES — Six Greyhound athletes were announced Wednesday as the spring academic athletes of the year, with one for each spring sport offered.
The awards went to Lindsey Adcock, Ezra Bagwell, Danee Bustos, Keenan Dodd, Trey Jackson and Lauren Likes.
Bagwell is a four-time All-Academic Lone Star Conference track and field selection, and has now earned the student athlete of the year award for a third time. The electronics engineering major opened the outdoor season with a first-place performance in the pole vault at the inaugural ENMU Open with a height of 12-11.75.
Bustos, his track teammate, is a communicative disorders major, who garnered All-American status with the 400 meter relay team at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, and also took third in the 200 meter dash at the LSC Championships.
Adcock is a management major with a minor in economics who, like Bagwell, is being honored with her third student athlete of the year award.
She will cap off her rodeo career by competing in the breakaway roping category at the College National Finals Rodeo after finishing third in the region.
Jackson, her rodeo teammate, is a business administration major, and has competed in steer wrestling for Eastern throughout the 2017-18 season.
Dodd has been the baseball team's student athlete of the year for a second time in the last three years. The senior double major in biochemistry and chemistry is the first ENMU baseball player to be chosen as the LSC Academic Player of the Year.
The last ENMU athlete to garner LSC Academic Player of the Year was Courtney Lawson (volleyball, 2016), while the last male winner was Jeremy Buurma (football, 2015).
Dodd was also chosen as ENMU's regional representative for the Most Outstanding Graduating Senior in Chemistry Award and ENMU Biochemistry Student of the Year. The right-hander led the Greyhounds with six wins this past season.
Likes, a Spanish major with a minor in mathematics, batted .273 for the ENMU softball team this past season.
