Expo to bring baby resources together

CLOVIS — Raising a family doesn’t come with an instruction manual, but there are resources available to help parents along the way.

The Curry County Health Council will bring many of those resources together in one place on Saturday for the county’s first Baby Expo.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Curry County Administrative Complex parking lot, 417 Gidding St., exhibitors including the Clovis Fire Department and their fire house, the Imagination Library program and several local health care and child services providers will be on hand to provide information and resources for families with children of all ages.

“We’re calling it a Baby Expo but it’s a free informational event for expectant and new parents, families and grandparents, we have a little bit for everyone,” said Suzanne Zamora, a member of the Curry County Health Council.

Curry County Health Council Coordinator Susan Alman said the county wanted to create a convenient, one-stop shop for family health care.

“I’m hoping people will come out and if their baby has a special need, they know where they can go get help; they’ll know by the time they leave what’s out there,” Alman said.

The event will also include a car-seat program in which attendees can learn about the correct use of a car seat and have their own car seat checked to ensure it’s properly secure, Alman said.

Alman said vendors will also be bringing either bags or boxes of disposable diapers, which will be distributed via a drawing held every hour.

Curry County Manager Lance Pyle said the county clerk’s office will be open during the expo so those in attendance can take advantage of early voting in the county’s primary election that takes place Tuesday.
