Reporter's notebook: Up for adoption

CLOVIS — About 240,000 wild horses and burros have been given the chance at a new life since 1971, and a few more may get that chance today and Saturday.

The Bureau of Land Management is holding two adoption days — today from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon — at the Curry County Fairgrounds.

According to the BLM’s website, potential adopters must meet a few basic requirements: They must be at least 18 years old, have no prior convictions of inhumane treatment of animals and must have a minimum of 400 square feet of space per animal.

If you can check all of those boxes and have the required responsibility, you’re ready to take home a new family member.
