Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Eastern New Mexico University and Clovis Community College both received Gold School designation as a Military Friendly School.
The listing of schools is posted in G.I. Jobs magazine’s May edition and is available at http://www.militaryfriendly.com.
More than 1,400 schools across the country apply for the designation through a survey, with 941 receiving a Military Friendly designation.
There are 50 schools that received a Top 10 designation — 10 each for graduate school, large community college, large public, non-traditional and online/vocational — followed by 50 gold schools.
Schools were judged on surveys, plus public data, on how they met benchmarks for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, degree advancement or transfer and loan default rates for all students — but particularly for student veterans.
ENMU had previously held silver designation, while CCC continued its status at gold.
“I’m thrilled,” said ENMU System Chancellor Jeff Elwell. “We have been trying to expand services and resources for active military and veterans. We ve made a commitment to improving the experience of veterans at Eastern New Mexico University. The awarding of gold status tells us we’re moving in the right direction.”
Becky Rowley, president at CCC, was glad the school upheld its previous designation.
“It’s a big deal to us to be a Military Friendly school,” Rowley said, “so we want to make sure we are providing services for our veteran students at the level required for that.”
Four New Mexico schools were honored. San Juan College received a silver designation, and New Mexico State University received a basic designation.
