Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS — The third in a trio of bounty hunters charged with kidnapping and other felonies for an incident last year in Clovis came into custody this week and was released on personal recognizance, according to court records.
Yeira Sanchez, a.k.a. Yeira Arreola, 35, of Dodge City, Kansas, was at large since May 31, when police filed charges against her and two others. She and her husband Fabian Arreola, the latter of which was arrested last month in Kansas, are accused of serving a non-extraditable warrant from Kansas in cooperation with Lubbock-area “retrieval agent” Bradley Smith last year.
Smith, 39, turned himself in last month. He was released June 28 on an unsecured appearance bond, while Fabian Arreola, 32, was released June 24 on a $3,000 cash bond.
Smith waived a preliminary examination, and Arreola and Sanchez are scheduled for separate hearings in the coming weeks.
The three each entered no plea on identical charges of second-degree kidnapping, aggravated burglary and extortion. Smith’s attorney previously declined comment, and Arreola’s attorney said he thought the charges “a little extreme.” Sanchez will be assigned a public defender but a specific attorney was not yet named, officials said.
