Clovis American 13-14 Junior League team shortstop Skylar Schuette takes cuts as head coach Jose Lopez lofts two softballs - with him directing her which one to hit - during Thursday night's practice at the Green Acres field off Mitchell Avenue. Clovis American, already a state champion, headed to Albuquerque on Friday to partake in the regional tournament and will face Colorado in Saturday's opening round.
CLOVIS — On Thursday it was about practicing, hitting softballs into nets and getting ready for a big weekend.
Friday was a travel day, time to make the 3 1/2-hour trek from Clovis to Albuquerque.
