Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
I started work when I was 16 as an administrative assistance for Radford High School, Honolulu, Hawaii. I was the daughter and wife of military personnel so I have had a variety of jobs. Waitressing, Aero Club manager, tour guide in Europe, insurance sales, securities sales, administrator of an assisted living facility, kitchen manager at our Curry County Detention Center to my current position as an NRA instructor and New Mexico concealed carry instructor. I also volunteer as President of the Board for Meals on Wheels and Friends of the Library.
Tell us about your pets:
My most favorite pet was my miniature Chihuahua that I had to have put down after 17 years of companionship. My husband and I have almost always had dogs.
How did you meet your spouse?
My husband, Greg (USAF Chief ret.), and I met as back door neighbors in 1986. I sold him life insurance. We have roamed Europe, Mexico and Alaska together, always ending back at Cannon AFB. We have a son, Mike, and his wife Mechelle and their three kids; Damon and his wife Nicole and their three kids; and a daughter Amanda and her husband Kevin and their three kids. My grandchildren range from Tori, age 23, to Marcel, age 18 months.
What are you reading?
I am an avid reader and utilize the Clovis-Carver Library almost on a daily basis. They have great staff and the information desk people have an unbelievable amount of information.
I try to at least read a book a day. Most of the time I read Christian fiction.
What is your most prized possession?
My most prized possession would be my mother's and grandmother's wedding rings and our family trees. I am fascinated by genealogy. Just recently I have discovered I am related to Elvis Presley. Probably 46th cousins, but still interesting to me.
Do you have a celebrity crush?
My celebrity favorites would have to be Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot.
What's the best gift you've ever given? Received?
I think the best gift I have ever given is the memorial box I had made for my brother, Wes. It has all our father's military information and the flag that covered his casket.
Tell us about your favorite hobby.
My favorite hobby is arts and crafts; especially chalk painting. I love taking something that's been discarded and making a keepsake out of it.
If money were no object, what would you do to make eastern New Mexico a better place?
If money were no object I would love to find a way to bring more water to eastern New Mexico.
What would I hope for my life in 10 years?
To still have good health and family and friends.
