1973: Rescue workers made a heroic effort to save the life of a man who suffered an apparent heart attack while tarring a roof of a hardware store at 504 Mitchell St. in Clovis.
An ambulance and snorkel truck were called to the scene and Clovis Fire Chief Jerry Carter went on the roof to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Babe McClain, 45.
McClain died later in the day at Memorial Hospital.
McClain had lived in Clovis three years and owned Clovis Roofing Specialists.
