Information on making homemade soap and turning a sweatshirt into a princess seamed jacket will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. and on Thursday at noon. (All times are Mountain.)
David Fisher is a self-taught soap maker, and he’s going to demonstrate the basic melt and pour method of making homemade soap. He’ll show how to cut and weigh the soap base, how to add fragrance and then show how to make two different basic soaps — one decorative and one more rustic with botanicals. Fisher is from Dallas.
Designer and crafter Barbara Crawford will show how to use a sweatshirt and turn it into a fitted, princess seamed jacket that is figure flattering and easy to make. She says the princess seams will shave off about ten pounds. She’s from Katy, Texas.
Information on quick and easy crafts, creating texture using a special paper, and using essential oils in the kitchen will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at noon and on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Jann Johnson is a designer and crafter, and she will share some quick and easy crafts, including felt pillows, silk screening, and making beeswax candles. She lives in New York City.
Color diffusing paper is a fabric-like paper with great texture and beautiful results are guaranteed. Sara Mower will show how to create spectacular patterns and effects using water-based markers, paints, crayons, glitter and this special paper. She’s in Anderson, South Carolina.
Kris Wrede is an aromatic alchemist and natural perfumer, and she’s in Albuquerque. Wrede will show how to prepare unusual recipes using essential oils to make life more sensual and to help one appreciate the vibrancy of food.
Chocolate caliente
• 12 oz. dark semi-sweet chocolate
• 1 cup cream
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1 3/4 tsp. chili powder
Melt dark semi-sweet chocolate, like Ghirardelli or Scharffenberger, on low heat in a medium saucepan. In another saucepan bring cream to a boil. Add the cream gradually to the melted chocolate and then slowly add sugar. Stir constantly until all ingredients are blended and not grainy. Then add chili powder and mix in well and add your choice of oils.
