1968: Firefighters spent five hours battling a blaze at Diamonds LTD, located at 316 Main St. in Clovis.
A passerby called in the fire shortly before midnight.
"The blaze caused such intense heat that the windows melted," said Norman Petty, who owned the store.
Officials said a short circuit in a window display probably caused the fire.
Petty said everything near the front of the building sustained extensive damage, while smoke damage was evident throughout the store.
