Get tips on 'Double Dry Embossing'

Information on recipes from the La Fonda restaurant and double dry embossing will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. and on Thursday at noon. (All times are Mountain.)

John Vollertsen (also known as Chef Johnny Vee) recently contributed to a beautiful coffee table book that celebrates the history of Santa Fe’s historic La Fonda Hotel. He is going to demonstrate three recipes drawn from the era when La Fonda was a proud member of the Harvey Hotel Group. Vollertsen owns and operates a cooking school in Santa Fe.

Diane Tunnell is an independent demonstrator in Clovis. If you’re a crafter, you have probably already learned about using embossing folders but have you ever tried a technique called “Double Dry Embossing?” She will demonstrate this technique and show several cards she’s made with it.

Information on creating background paper to coordinate with cards and more, making a fleece quilt, and making a Dorae Maedeup bracelet will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” on Tuesday at noon and on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Theresa Cifali, mixed media artist in Valhalla, New York, will show how to create background paper to coordinate with cards, scrapbooking and other paper crafts. She will demonstrate two different techniques for doing this.

Sewing instructor Nancy Lovett says that piecing fleece to make quilts is very bulky. She’s going to show a non-traditional technique that reduces all of the bulk and results in a very beautiful quilt. Lovett teaches at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Becky Meverden spent two years in Korea and learned the art of making Maedeup jewelry, which is quite involved. She’s going to demonstrate making a Dorae Maedeup bracelet which features four primary steps. She’s from White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Hot Mexican Bean Dip

• 3 cups pork & beans in tomato sauce

• 1/2 cup sharp cheese, shredded

• 1 tsp garlic salt

• 1/2 tsp. salt

• Dash of pepper

• 1 tsp. vinegar

• 1/2 cup crisp bacon, chopped

• 1 tsp. chili powder

• 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Combine all ingredients except bacon. Heat in chafing dish or in double boiler. Sprinkle chopped bacon over top.
