Board of regents to evaluate Elwell

PORTALES — A performance evaluation of Eastern New Mexico University Chancellor Jeff Elwell is slated to take place during an executive session following Friday’s ENMU Board of Regents meeting.

Elwell said he expects the evaluation to include “how I did in specific areas that they’re concerned with and what improvements I can make in any areas or what new areas we should look at.”

Elwell’s contract was previously extended in May and he received a 6.5 percent pay raise in June, bringing his annual salary to $245,000.

Other items included on the agenda of the executive session include discussion pertaining to two threatened or pending litigation matters and one limited personnel matter.

The authorization to accept settlement in ongoing litigation is also included on the regular agenda as an information item, related to problems with one of the university’s vendors, according to Elwell.

The board is also expected to vote on resolutions approving general obligation bonds for the upcoming election in the amounts of $8 million for the Portales campus, $3 million for the Roswell campus and $500,000 for the Ruidoso campus.

The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Friday at ENMU’s Portales campus.
