1973: Rain was falling at a steady pace across the region, pleasing everyone except county fair goers and some football fans.

Rain totals ranged from a half inch to more than 2 inches around the region.

Curry County Fair officials said livestock exhibitions were proceeding as scheduled, but judging had to be moved inside. And the rain "continued to repel many fair visitors," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

The weather forced cancellation of the carnival at Friona for the Maize Days celebration.

Football games were played as scheduled, but fans "welcomed the wet spell with mixed emotions," the newspaper reported.
