LUBBOCK — The definition of a compromise is where both sides walk away unhappy.
The term could likely be applied to Lubbock Christian and Eastern New Mexico, as they ended Saturday’s double-overtime periods with out a game-winner and a 1-1 tie in the Heartland Conference books.
Both the Greyhounds (3-2-1) and Chaps (2-1-1) had their chances to win the game, but each settled for the tie, a 1-0-1 record and their fourth conference point instead of 2-0 and a total of six conference points.
The tie, however, does ensure the Greyhounds will finish with a better Heartland West Division record than last season’s 1-5 effort.
The Greyhounds drew first blood, with Joao Gabriel Andrade taking a pass from Robert Leonard and burying it past Braxton Thorne in the 31st minute.
Just over 20 minutes later, Armand Kouskou beat ENMU keeper Ross Dalton to square things up.
Eastern had its chances, with Aderi Arthur-Dede posting a game-high eight shots. The Chaps had theirs too, including a shot Dalton saved in the final second of the second overtime period.
The Greyhounds resume the Heartland season at Greyhound Stadium with a 7 p.m. Thursday battle against Rogers State.
