Roosevelt approves property tax rates

PORTALES — Roosevelt County commissioners on Monday unanimously approved the 2018 annual property tax rates, amounting to decreases in three districts and more-or-less the same in the rest, officials said.

“The only things that really changed were Dora and Causey school districts dropped, and the House school district dropped due to a debt service decrease,” said Assessor George Beggs. “Portales and Floyd and Elida and all of them stay relatively the same. It’s not going to be noticeable.”

The special meeting lasted all of 10 minutes, said County Manager Amber Hamilton, with the assessor presenting and tax rates verified from the state. Commissioners Paul Grider and Gene Creighton were absent; Matthew Hunton and Shane Lee appeared in person, and Dennis Lopez attended by phone, Hamilton said.
