1968: Robert Haseloff, Kyle Sheets and Craig Phillips had been selected Steers of the Week by The State Line Tribune newspaper.

Haseloff was lineman of the week for his "outstanding performance in the Dimmitt-Steer game" the previous week. Sheets, No. 82, and Phillips, No. 42, were the backs of the week.

In other sports news: Joe Robertson, a Santa Fe engineer, had won the horseshoe pitching championship at the New Mexico State Fair. "I've been pitching horseshoes ever since I had to take them off the horses to practice with," Robertson told the newspaper.
