Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS — Board members of the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority on Thursday unanimously approved both of the new business items on their agenda.
They awarded to Oscar Renda Contracting a construction contract on an interim pipeline between Clovis and Cannon Air Force Base. They also authorized the execution of a Water Trust Board Loan to supply additional funds to that project.
Work on Finish Water 2, estimated at $25 million, should begin in November or December and is expected to take the better part of a year. Some $20 million of that ultimate price tag is reflected in the contract approved Thursday, and the board hopes to bring the project that much closer to completion with the release of almost $2.5 million from the WTB grant/loan.
The board also discussed the visit next week by Ortega, Chairman David Lansford, Vice-Chair Ron Jackson and member Jim Lucero to Washington, D.C., to pursue federal capital outlay dollars available to rural water projects.
The board meets next at 1 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Memorial Building in Portales.
