COMMERCE, Texas — Eastern New Mexico resumes its volleyball season at home with a Friday-Saturday back-to-back.
It can’t come soon enough for the Greyhounds, following a pair of losses over the weekend on the road — 3-0 Friday at Texas Woman’s and 3-2 Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce.
The losses were the third- and fourth-straight for Eastern New Mexico (7-12, 5-6).
Friday (Texas Woman’s 25-15, 25-18, 25-18) — The Pioneers had a balanced effort on offense, with Maggie Pyles, Elizabeth Ugbaja and Courtney Noel each totaling 11 kills on the evening. Kate Ranes added 40 assists for Texas Woman’s (17-7, 4-5).
The Greyhounds were led by Jasmine Gannon’s eight kills. Kaitlyn Kluna had 12 assists, while Alba Ontiveros added 18 digs.
Saturday (Commerce 19-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-13, 25-8) — The host Lions slowly built momentum, and took control late in the third set. Shelley Chapron had 17 kills to lead the Lions (16-4, 8-2).
Gannon had 12 kills to lead the Greyhounds, while Jennifer Maritnez added 11 kills. Martinez also had team highs of four blocks and and three service aces.
