Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS — Applications are open for the annual holiday shopping outing between first-responders and under-privileged children, according to a news release from the Clovis Police Department.
The “Cops and Kids Christmas Event” allows $100 each for select children “to spend on themselves” while shopping with an officer or first responder just before Christmas.
“This event is a tradition that local Law Enforcement look forward to every year,” said the release. “The children (aged 3 to 13) are under-privileged kids who might not have a chance at receiving gifts unless help is provided.”
Pick up an application at the CPD records window, 300 N. Connelly, and return it there completed between now and Dec. 1 for consideration. A panel of officers and civilians will review the applications and notify the child’s parent/guardian after selection.
Multiple assisting agencies support CPD with the event, as well as individuals and local businesses.
Among fundraisers upcoming are a “Dollars for Donuts” event outside Daylight Donuts at 6 a.m. on Nov. 1 and a “serving for tips” event Dec. 4 at Leal’s from 5 p.m. in which “all tips go to the event.”
