Probation violations put Clovis man back in jail

CLOVIS — For picking up new charges while on probation, a judge on Monday sentenced a Clovis man to serve the remaining years of his sentence in prison.

Jared Wagner, 23, was on supervised probation since January for three cases from last year that involved drug possession and residential burglary. A news release from District Attorney Andrea Reeb said he violated probation in August “by picking up new charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm” for allegedly “beating and kicking another man about the head and face causing a broken nose, broken orbital eye socket, a concussion and broken dentures.”

Judge Fred Van Soelen sentenced Wagner to serve the remaining four years of his sentence in the Department of Corrections; with “maximum good time” credit he is “looking at a little over two years,” records show.

Wagner is scheduled back in court next year for hearings on the new charge of aggravated battery, a third-degree felony.
