Prep volleyball: Texico streak hits six

PECOS — Texico’s volleyball team is rolling. The Lady Wolverines are on a six-game winning streak, and are still undefeated in District 7-2A.

Their solid play is coming at just the right time. Postseason action is around the corner, and last year’s 3A state champs are trying to win it all in 2A this year.

This past Thursday, the Lady Wolves continued their season-long climb as they swept district rival Pecos 3-0 — with scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 — and improved to 4-0 in district competition.

“We’re doing some good stuff,” Texico head coach Kristen Scanlan said. “We really are playing at a high intensity.”

Jasmine Davalos led Texico (13-5 overall) with 25 digs.

Baylee Sours had 14 assists, 12 digs and a block for the Lady Wolverines. Riley Thompson chipped in with 12 kills, seven digs and a block. Ashley Hill added nine digs and three kills. Kaitlyn Roderick contributed eight kills and seven blocks. And Rachel Phipps had seven assists and two aces.

Texico has two remaining regular-season matches, both away. The Lady Wolves visit Santa Rosa this Thursday and wrap up at Clayton this Saturday.
