Five ENMU players net LSC women's soccer honors

CANYON, Texas — Midfielder Samantha Fabela received first-team honors, and five Greyhounds in all received designation Thursday night on the All-Lone Star Conference teams.

Grad student Bailey Bosley was a second-teamer and the conference’s newcomer of the year, while sisters Hayden and Keyara Zuniga received second team and honorable mention, respectively. Sophomore Caitlyn Schmidt made the LSC’s All-Academic Team.

The awards were given at Thursday’s banquet, traditionally held on the eve of the semifinals. The banquet and the final two rounds, including today’s championship game featuring the Greyhounds and Angelo State, are hosted by top seed West Texas A&M.

Fabela led the Greyhounds with 42 shots and 16 on goal, with two goals and two assists on the season.

Bosley, who came to ENMU following an undergraduate career at Stephen F. Austin, has scored two goals and dished out three assists this year.

It is the second-straight season earning an all-conference honor for both Zuniga sisters.

Hayden Zuniga, who also made second-team last year, has started all 18 matches for the Greyhounds and played a team-high 1,678 minutes for a defense that has allowed 10.4 shots per game — the lowest in program history.

Keyara Zuniga, a first-team selection last year, leads the Greyhounds with five goals and 11 points overall. She scored both goals in ENMU’s 2-0 quarterfinal win Wednesday over Texas A&M-Commerce.

Two Hounds gain weekly honors — Before they even started the LSC tournament Wednesday, a pair of Greyhounds had already earned LSC accolades.

Junior Charlotte Collins-Blaize was named the offensive player of the week, while Hayden Zuniga was the defensive player of the week. It could be considered a clean sweep of the LSC awards, as no school submitted a nominee for best goalkeeper and no award was given.

Collins-Blaize recorded ENMU’s first multiple-goal game of the season with two tallies in the team’s 3-0 win over Texas-Permian Basin Oct. 26.

Hayden Zuniga led a defense that gave up just nine shots in two games, allowing only a goal to LSC leading scorer Trenaday Scott in Sunday’s 1-0 loss against Angelo State. It was the only shot on goal for the Rambelles, and one of just two total shots against the ENMU defense.
