Man convicted for repeat DWI

CLOVIS — A Clovis man faces up to 3 1/2 years in prison after being convicted last week of his sixth DWI offense.

A Curry County jury found Gerardo Vasquez, 43, guilty of third-degree felony "driving while under the influence of intoxication liquor — 6th offense," and a misdemeanor, according to a news release from the 9th Judicial District Attorney.

He faces up to 42 months in prison, with Judge Matthew Chandler ordering sentencing at a later date.

District Attorney Andrea Reeb said she hopes Chandler will pursue the maximum sentence, stating that her office "is committed to making sure these repeat DWI offenders are held accountable for their actions ... "
