Portales Woman’s Club

On Nov. 14, Portales Woman's Club President Amber Hamilton called the meeting to order and gave the invocation and led the Pledges and Collect. Ronnie Birdsong introduced Dr. Kristen Kuhlman, Director of Nursing at ENMU, who told about the program she’s involved in. Kuhlman was asked to select a book that will be presented to a local school in her honor.

The October minutes were approved as printed in the monthly newsletter. There were 20 members and 3 guests present.

Jacque Houser, house chair, reported that the executive board recommended new locks be purchased for the front and back door and for member’s use when they are on the hostess committee. The motion was seconded and it carried. She also explained that a new free-standing electric fireplace was purchased for the club building. Additional space heaters were provided by members.

Cindy Miller, civic chair, asked members to provide cookies for the annual Santa Cop project on December 8th. Volunteers are needed to work from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Hamilton introduced GFWC-NM State President, Alisa Estrada from Reserve, who talked about the benefits of being a GFWC federated club.

Gloria Waggoner, chair of the hostess committee, introduced and thanked Linda Short and June Ferguson for serving with her.

The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m., and the next meeting will be Dec. 12.
