DENVER — Isaiah Murphy wasn’t the biggest scorer by any means in Wednesday’s game at Regis, but he was certainly one of the most important.
Murphy scored five of his eight points in the final 19 seconds, including a tie-breaking 3-pointer and a pair of game-sealing free throws as Eastern New Mexico went into Christmas break with a 78-73 win to extend its winning streak to four games.
It’s the longest winning streak since the 2016-17 team ripped off five straight in a late-season push. The Greyhounds (5-4) will try to match that streak Saturday at Oklahoma Christian following the Christmas break.
Sophomore Devin Pullum led the offensive effort for the Greyhounds with 18 points — 15 in the first half to give the visiting Greyhounds a 45-36 lead at the half. He also had a big play late, drawing an offensive foul on the Regis possession following Murphy’s 3-pointer.
Darius Sawyer scored 14 points, including eight straight in the second half highlighted by a dunk between a pair of Regis defenders with 2:33 left to play. Chukuka Emili added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Greyhounds, who shot 27-of-59 from the field. Sawyer also led the Hounds with eight boards, part of a 38-37 advantage on the day.
"Today was a really big victory for our program against a Regis team that historically has been a top regional team," ENMU coach Tres Segler said in a university release. “I'm proud of the way our guys reacted to adversity and overcame when they made their offensive runs. We played very physical and I'm proud of the way we rebounded the basketball all game."
Jarrett Brodbeck scored 22 points on 7-of-19 shooting to lead Regis (6-5), which had three in double figures. Chrisitan Little added 21 and Brian Dawson 15, but nobody else had more than five points for the Rangers.
