Roosevelt to consider new contract

PORTALES — Tuesday morning Roosevelt County will kick off the new year considering a contract for a new evidence technician position at the county sheriff office, among routine items before the commission for the beginning of 2019.

“This meeting is going to be a first of the year meeting, really to just handle the annual requirements for the commission,” county manager Amber Hamilton told The News. “It will also be the first meeting for (newly election) Commissioner (Tina) Dixon. For the most part, everything is very much standard procedure.”

Standard items include discussion and approval of assignments across more than a dozen committees, among them the newly-created Ethics Board, which will be comprised of five members and alternates selected in the coming weeks from each district by their respective commissioners.

Hamilton said there are parameters to those appointments, namely that members “cannot serve in a current political role” in the county.

A draft of the contract for the proposed evidence tech position at the Roosevelt County Sheriff Office was not available Saturday afternoon, Hamilton added, but the contract term would only be for the remainder of the budget year ending June 30.

Taking a broader look at the year to come, Hamilton affirmed county leadership’s intention to “work closely with everyone at a local and state level.

“I think in 2019 we’re obviously going to see some significant changes at the state level, as we’re aware, with the state leadership, so we’re working hard to stay connected with that,” she said.
