CLOVIS — Dust off the golden shovels: a groundbreaking for a phase of the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority’s interim pipeline is scheduled for late next month, with details to be discussed in the board’s regular meeting Thursday afternoon.
ENMWUA on Nov. 1 gave contractors the “notice to proceed” for Finish Water 2, the initial phase of the Interim Ground Water Project which “will be a functional water utility delivering potable water to Eastern New Mexico residents before the Ute Water Projects is fully completed,” chair David Lansford said last year.
Oscar Renda Contracting has about 10 months remaining to complete the seven miles of pipeline between Clovis and Cannon Air Force Base, and an updated timeline will also be discussed at Thursday’s 1 p.m. meeting at the Sitterly Professional Center.
The groundbreaking is scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 26, starting with a catered lunch sponsored by local businesses, a brief presentation and then a visit to the site.
“We haven’t picked a precise location yet for the groundbreaking, but that will be announced,” ENMWUA Administrative Assistant Sara Widner told The News. “About 1 p.m. or a little before we’ll all go to the site and have a little press conference and the golden shovels and all that good stuff.”
