No injuries in pair of fires

CLOVIS — Local crews battled a pair of fires Monday afternoon, with no injuries reported at either.

Units from Clovis, Melrose, Texico and Cannon Air Force Base took a little more than an hour to knock out a brush fire near the intersection of 60/84 and Curry Road W.

Clovis Battalion Chief Joel Gershon said no structures were damaged in the fire, which burned about 150 acres and was first reported at 12:10 p.m. Gershon said crews could figure out where the first started, but didn’t know what initially caused the blaze.

Around 4:35 p.m., Clovis crews responded to an apartment fire at a triplex on the 300 block of Sheldon Street. When officers arrived, they found two residents in the structure still trying to put out the fire, which started when a dresser next to a heater caught fire.

Gershon said the fire was confined to the area of origin at 4:44 p.m., and both people were released on the scene after being checked for smoke inhalation.
