PORTALES — Roosevelt County Sheriff Malin Parker this weekend requested assistance from New Mexico State Police on an internal investigation into a report of cash missing from the county evidence room, according to a news release.
Once an employee notified Parker of the missing cash, he “immediately called for his evidence techs, and case agent to conduct a full audit to determine if the cash was missing as a clerical error, being misplaced, or malicious,” said the release Sunday.
That audit returned “negative findings on all,” it continued, so Parker contacted NMSP “and requested a full investigation.”
Parker last week told the county commission that an individual being considered for a proposed new evidence tech position was no longer interested.
He declined to answer follow up questions Monday from The News, citing the ongoing investigation.
