ENMU women drop to eighth in regional poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Following a split in their Lone Star Conference games last week, Eastern New Mexico University’s women dropped one slot to eighth in the D2SIDA South Central Regional poll, released Monday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The Greyhounds received 15 points in the poll, voted on by six sports information directors from the Lone Star, Heartland and Rocky Mountain Athletic conferences that make up the South Central Region.

In all, five Lone Star Conference teams found spots on the poll, including West Texas A&M on top.

The Lady Buffs (13-1) stayed in first place with all six first-place votes and 60 points, despite being upset Thursday by Texas A&M-Kingsville. They are followed by Colorado Mesa (49 points), Angelo State (46), Westminster (44), Lubbock Christian (39), St. Mary’s (29) and Texas A&M-Commerce (20).

After ENMU, Tarleton State and Western Colorado both took 13 points to tie for the ninth and 10th slots.

The next few games will certainly impact ENMU’s place in the poll. The Greyhounds host Tarleton State to start a four-game homestand which includes Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday, West Texas A&M Tuesday and Texas Woman’s on Jan. 24.
