Taylor continued her strong senior campaign this past weekend as the Temple, Texas native averaged 22.0 points per contest as the No. 2 Lady Buffs fell at Texas A&M-Kingsville before picking up a thrilling buzzer-beater win at No. 18 Angelo State to move to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the LSC. The leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference continued to dominate this past weekend as the senior post went 20-of-28 (71.4) from the floor including 4-of-10 (40.0) from the free throw line to go along with 15 total rebounds (five offensive, 10 defensive), two assists, two blocks and four steals.
ENMU nominee: Treyanna Clay led Eastern New Mexico to a dominating 76-53 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Clay scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and not only made her first three-pointer of the season, but knocked down 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. With her 10-point effort against Angelo State, Clay has scored in double-figures in 12 of ENMU's 14 games, including nine straight. The win over Kingsville was a crucial one, moving the Hounds into a four-way tie for first place in the LSC.
DEFENSIVE
Hannah Reynolds, Midwestern State University, SO, Health Science, Forward, Prosper, Texas, Prosper HS
Reynolds helped Midwestern State to a 2-0 record this past week with wins over UT Permian Basin (79-57) and Western New Mexico (80-46). The sophomore averaged 5.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 4.5 blocks. Against UT Permian Basin, Reynolds turned in 10 points, five rebounds and six blocks, the second time in the last four games she has posted at least five rejections. She went 4-of-7 from the field while limiting UTPB to 31.3 percent shooting and 10.0 percent from long range. She followed that performance with a seven rebound, three block effort against Western New Mexico. Reynolds was held scoreless for the first time this season, but made an impact on the defensive end by holding the Mustangs to 27.3 percent shooting. The sophomore ranks 18th in NCAA DII and leads the LSC with 36 blocks.
ENMU nominee: Alivia Lewis continued to hold her place as the top rebounder in the LSC after two more solid efforts against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. In the losing effort against ASU, Lewis recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds and followed it up with the most rebounds with seven in ENMU's 76-53 win at TAMUK while also recording a pair of blocks and steals. Lewis also put together a pair of strong offensive efforts, scoring 10 and 11 points in each match, respectively while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
LSC NOTES
Four teams — West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, and Texas A&M-Commerce — entered Tuesday tied atop the Lone Star Conference standings. Conference action continues this week with games Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The LSC women’s teams are 82-67 overall entering Tuesday. The women’s squads are currently 15-16 combined against the Heartland, and 15-7 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
