Overpass could open in March

CLOVIS - Work on the Prince Street Overpass is expected to go through July. However, frustrated motorists may have some relief on the horizon next month, as Department of Transportation officials expect to open the overpass to traffic in March.

The $2.5 million project, which began in late August, has had plenty of work phases completed, according to DOT District 2 Public Information Officer Manon Arnett. Finished work, Arnett said, includes replaced concrete approach slabs, sidewalks, raised median, metal pedestrian railing, wall barriers, repaired concrete, and replaced abutments.

Currently, lanes are being paved on the overpass. Following that, remaining work includes a chain link fence, new lighting, application of new protective coating, and other miscellaneous work.

There haven't been any unexpected developments during the course of work, Arnett said, but there have been a few weather delays with freezing temperatures and strong winds.

Work on the bridge, first built in 1989, is being done to ensure the overpass' structural integrity.

Since the overpass' closure, motorists have largely used the Hull Street Overpass, with some risking Norris Street and its railroad crossing.
