1989: The Men’s Interdenominational Bible Class prepared to mark its 40th anniversary.
Herbert Bergstrom was the class’ teacher. About 125 men attended regularly at the Cinemas Theatre at North Plains Mall in Clovis.
The class was organized by Clovis dentist and cattleman I.D. Johnson and local businessman Ed Dillon on Jan. 31, 1949. The group was originally called the Methodist Men’s Bible Class and met in the basement of the First United Methodist Church on Main Street.
When the class grew to more than 100 members, it moved to the old Clovis High School Library at Seventh and Main streets.
Today, about two dozen faithful still gather at North Plains Cinema 7 each Sunday around 9 a.m.
