School board approves advertising

CLOVIS — The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education approved the advertising for its superintendent search during a special meeting Tuesday.

According to the approved advertising, minimum requirements for applicants include a master’s degree, New Mexico administrative licensure, principal experience, administration experience, as well as a commitment to reside in the district, which was an addition the board made on Tuesday.

“If we want them to be visible and a member of the community, then certainly we’d prefer they live here,” school board President Cindy Osburn said.

Hugh Prather, the superintendent search facilitator, said feedback from the community members assisting with the search showed residents are looking for someone with passion and empathy, as well as being a strong leader.

“Not physical strength, we’re not looking for somebody who can press 200 pounds, but we’re looking for somebody who will bring people along and support,” Prather said.

Salary for the position will be in the range of $150,000 to $165,000, according to the approved advertisement.

The school board will accept applications until April 5, hold a special meeting April 10 to select finalists, interview finalists on April 13 and select the new superintendent on April 23.
