ENMU women's rodeo team sixth at Ranger College

RANGER, Texas — Following a break of more than a month, Eastern New Mexico’s women’s rodeo team had a strong showing at the Ranger College Rodeo.

Four members of the team reached the short round on Saturday, with three producing scoring finishes. That led to 102 team points and a sixth-place finish. Tarleton State won the rodeo with 310 points.

No member of the men’s team made the short round.

Junior Saige Bell posted a time of 7.4 in the short go to end up fourth in the goat tying event. That performance jumped Bell up to fourth place in the average after a time of 7.9 in the first round and secured 70 total points for the Hounds.

Molly Griffin tied for fourth place at 2.1 seconds in breakaway roping to advance to the short round. Her finals time of 2.8 seconds was not fast enough to place. She was eighth overall in average, and scored 12 points.

Freshman Karli Cowie scored 20 points with a fifth place finish in the first round of the barrel racing event following a time of 14.88. Cowie followed up that time on Saturday night with a mark of 15.14 in the short go to finish seventh in the average for the rodeo.

Sophomore Timber Kelly made the short go in goat tying, as her 7.6 tied for second place. In the short go, she finished at 11.4 seconds to go eighth in the finals and the average.

The Greyhounds are off this weekend, and head to Snyder April 4-6 for the Western Texas College Rodeo.
