PORTALES - The Portales girls tennis team saw its duals streak snapped at three on Tuesday against Goddard, while the boys moved their winning streak to three in action at the Bill Wahlman Tennis Center.
The boys took a 6-3 win over the visiting Rockets to improve to 5-2 on the season, and the girls fell 7-2 to drop to 4-2 overall.
Two Portales boys players had 2-0 days, Tyler Underhill and Brett Horton.
Underhill took a 6-2, 6-0 win over Phil Roberts in No. 4 singles, and teamed up with Jacob Roberts to top Grant Janway and Ray Downs 7-6, 6-1 with a 7-0 tiebreaker win in the first set.
Horton, playing out of the No. 5 singles slot, dominated Janway 6-1, 6-0. His No. 2 doubles match was tougher, as he and Drake Long needed three sets and a 7-4 tiebreaker to top Connor Downs and Phil roberts 6-3, 5-7, 7-6.
The win puts the Rams at 2-1 in District 4-4A play.
The girls saw their only victories on the day come in singles matches. Laura Blaeser, playing in No. 2, defeated Tati Villa in three sets with a 10-2 tiebreaker. Mikaela Garza was the other Ram winner, sweeping Ally Lara 6-1, 6-3.
The Rockets swept the three doubles matches to improve to 7-0 and 4-0 in District 4-4A play. The loss was Portales' first in 4-4A play, and dropped the Rams to 2-1.
Both Portales teams traveled to the two-day Hobbs Invite Friday and Saturday. They'll be off this week, and will host Roswell 3 p.m. April 15 in a non-district matchup.
