CLOVIS — Friday night will be a time for celebrating the past and looking ahead to the future for Clovis Christian School, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
“I’m excited about the event and the opportunity to celebrate 25 years of providing Christian education here in the Clovis community and the surrounding areas,” Superintendent Ladona Clayton said.
In addition to a great meal, Clayton said those who attend Friday’s banquet will be treated to performances by the school’s kindergarten students, a historical perspective of the school and a keynote address from Jonathan Evans, the chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks and son of Tony Evans, who has connections to the school through Matt 25.
“(Tony Evans) came in well more than a decade ago and helped this community to really embrace the concept of providing special services to those in need in our community. ... He launched I felt like a really strong campaign not just in Clovis but also Portales. (He) did some really significant services or speaking about why we should come together as a community and really be the hands and feet of God helping others in every way that we can,” Clayton said.
“We felt Dr. Evans as a legacy here and Jonathan’s going to build upon that and he’ll be talking about legacy that evening. It’s significant to each and every one of us, the legacy that we’re living today is the legacy that we leave behind.”
CCS will be adding to its legacy on Friday as well with an unveiling of new branding for the school.
“I think at that point when you’re celebrating such a milestone, you can also recognize the excitement about the future and its time to get people excited about where we’re going,” said Adrienne Bratcher, president of the CCS board directors.
Clayton said the school will also honor seven people with legacy awards to recognize their contributions to the school.
“For us it’s a way to celebrate and honor what the school’s accomplished but also what the community’s accomplished and we could not be where we are today if the Clovis community had not embraced Clovis Christian School and shown the significant support they have for these past 25 years,” Clayton said.
The banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Clovis Civic Center. Clayton said there is no cost associated with the invitation-only banquet and those interested in attending can contact CCS for more information.
