Clovis boys girls sweep

HOBBS — Good times for Clovis track and field this past weekend as both the boys and girls teams won the Gene Wells Relays in Hobbs.

Clovis’ boys took first with a score of 111.5, well ahead of second-place Carlsbad (95). The Lady Wildcats earned 93.5 points, nudging out second-place Midland Christian School by seven.

Portales’ boys took sixth with 30.5 points. The Portales girls were 12th, taking 1.5 points.

First-place local finishers were: The Clovis girls 4x100 relay team (50.91); Clovis’ T.J. Gregg in the boys 1,600-meter run (4:34.96); Clovis’ Kianna Chappell in the girls shot put (34-11.5); Clovis; Jacob Moon in the boys 100-meter dash (10.93); Portales’ Philip Blidi in the boys shot put (54-4.5); Clovis; Antanishwa Molett in the girls 300-meter hurdles (49.04); Clovis; Mikyla Harkley in the girls triple jump (36-7); Clovis’ Jon Fuentes in the boys 3,200-meter run (9:35.66); Clovis’ Gracie Rollins in the girls pole vault (9-9); Clovis’ Montez Wright in the boys 400-meter dash (50.10); Clovis in the boys 4x400-meter relay (3:31.39); and Maldonado in the boys 800-meter run (1:58.52).

Local second-place finishers were: Clovis’ Kris Byrd in the boys 110-meter hurdles (16.39); Harkley in the girls long jump (16-4.25); Clovis in the girls 4x200-meter relay (1:48.63); Clovis’ Kameron Kelley in the girls 100-meter hurdles (16.66); Clovis in the boys 4x100 meter relay (43.71); Clovis’ Brandon Mason in the boys 100-meter dash (11.46); Molett in the girls 100-meter dash (12.95); Clovis’ Analysse Hamlett in the girls 3,200-meter run (12:41.21); Clovis’ Pacer Hill and Portales’ Aiden Cabeldue in the boys pole vault (13-6 each).

Third-place local finishes were posted by: Clovis’ Stephen Acosta in the boys shot put (44-10); Mason in the boys triple jump (43-4.5); Clovis’ Kiara Cox in the girls 100-meter dash (13.05); Byrd in the boys high jump (6-2); Clovis in the boys 1,600-meter sprint medley (3:50.93); Clovis’ Camryn Baros in the girls pole vault (8-6); and Clovis’ Ethan Culliver in the boys 400-meter dash (51.97).

Locals placing fourth were: Clovis’ Jaylen Mason in the boys javelin throw (153-5); Clovis’ Sidney Stratton in the girls 400-meter dash (1:05.20); Clovis’ Bryce Cabeldue in the boys discus (134-7); Clovis in the girls 1,600-meter sprint medley (4:45.21); Clovis’ Richard Masterson in the boys 300-meter hurdles (43.71); and Cox in the girls high jump (4-10).

Fifth-place local finishes were notched by: Clovis’ Talya Caldwell (15-1.5) in the girls long jump; Hamlett in the girls 800-meter run (2:37.33); Clovis; Daniel Mendoza in the boys discus (132-1.5); Clovis; Clovis’ Zecheriah Gonzales in the boys shot put (42-11); Kelley in the girls 300-meter hurdles (50.97); Portales’ Julian Urioste in the boys high jump (6-0); Portales’ Kylyie Paden in the girls pole vault (8-6); and Clovis’ Zamaurie Spillman in the girls discus throw (102-75).

And tallying sixth-place local finishes were: Clovis in the boys 4x200 meter relay (1:36.37); Clovis’ Kaci Cabeldue in the girls 100 meter hurdles (18.32); Kunnal Puppala in the boys triple jump (39-9); Portales in the boys 1,600-meter sprint medley (4:07.82); Brandon Mason in the boys long jump (18-7), nudging out teammate Malik Phillips (seventh, 18-6.5); Kelley in the girls high jump (4-8, tied with Roswell’s Mercedes Velasco; and Culliver in the boys 200-meter dash (23.99).

Clovis’ and Portales’ boys and girls teams will be competing in this weekend’s George Love Relays, hosted by Portales. Start time is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
